Live Waxworms are the larvae of the Greater Wax Moth. They are creamy white and have a soft body which is easily digestible and very nutritious for garden birds.

They are rich in protein and fat, and are much larger than mealworms. As well as being hardy and odour-free, they will keep for 3 or 4 weeks at a low humidity, room temperature.

Your waxworms will arrive in a lidded, breathable tub which allows you to tip out a few at a time - without having to touch them if you are squeamish! With a little care they will last for weeks.

As waxworms have entered a stage in their life cycle where they no longer consume food, they are living off the fat supplies in their bodies which means you may see them growing smaller the longer you keep them. if you spot any black waxworms then they are dead waxworms and must be removed from the container.

Live foods are shipped separately to the rest of your order as they come directly from the supplier.

75g - supplied as 1 x 75g tub (approx. 250 Waxworms)
150g - supplied as 2 x 75g tubs (approx. 500 Waxworms)

The birds do not seem attracted to the waxworms. Disappointing. Maybe I need a better feeder. They are on the ground in a plastic box attached to another ground feeder. I go out there and move them around to start them wriggling a bit, but they can be out there days and no takers. Maybe wrong time of year to attract birds. But if they are for sale surely it must be something they would eat anytime. I bought waxworms as opposed to mealworms as they have more fat in them for the birds winter feed.
