Birds spit out the black ones and leave them in a heap on tray. Floor of balcony covered in them. Will not buy again.

Spring and Summer Bird Feeding FAQ's

We've populated a list of helpful answers to common questions we get about Spring and Summer feeding. We hope it helps!

Can you feed wild birds all year round?

Bird feeding is most common in the winter months when food is scarcer, but you should actually feed wild birds as often as you can. In the spring and summer months, it can be helpful to your garden birds during the breeding season and helps to support fledglings. During the colder winter months, it can help birds build the fat reserves they need to survive. So by feeding all year round, you give the wildlife around you the best chance to thrive and the best chance to survive food shortages whenever they may occur.

Can you overfeed wild birds?

Generally speaking birds won't become overweight through feeding. Some birds may appear that way, but this is usually a result of them fluffing up their feathers to trap the warm air near their bodies.

Don't forget wild birds aren't like humans - they dont over-indulge and tend to eat only what they need to survive. They also take in fats in a different way to us, so put out some food, relax and enjoy watching your birds dine!

What bird seed is good for winter?

We recommend looking at suet products such as fat balls, suet pellets and suet blocks in the winter months. We also produce a range of seed mixes with suet in the mix and a dedicated autumn and winter bird food mix. All of which are perfect birds foods for winter.

What do you feed birds in the spring and summer?

We'd always say that the best food is the food you can afford to feed. At the end of the day any food you can provide for our feathered friends is going to be better than no food at all.

That being said, we do offer a range of products more suited to feeding during the spring and summer months and in both a value and premium range too. These foods are optimised to provide excellent nutrition during the breeding season and for fledglings.

Should you put bird food out in the summer?

Absolutely, birds need support all year round from us, including during the warmer summer months. It can greatly benefit your local wildlife by providing birds with everything they need to survive. It isn't essential, but any support you can provide your local wildlife will be greatly appreciated by them.

Should I feed the birds in spring?

Absolutely, it's beneficial to offer bird food in the spring. It can greatly benefit your local wildlife by providing birds with everything they need to survive. It isn't essential, but any support you can provide your local wildlife will be greatly appreciated by them.

What's the best food to feed wild birds in spring and summer?

Your birds will enjoy either a seed mix such as our Spring and Summer Mixes. Or if you prefer we stock a range of other foods loved by a wide variety of birds, including sunflower hearts, peanuts and suets.

Should i feed birds suet in spring and summer?

Suet is an excellent source of fat to help birds stay healthy and thrive in their environment. While not essential in the warmer months, it will still help your local wildlife. We'd probably suggest putting a little less out during the warmer months and more out during the colder months.

Something to be aware of is suet products can melt on especially hot days. For this reason we often stop shipping them as they can melt or break up when in the delivery vans (which tend to get pretty warm!). It isnt a reason to stop feeding, but it is worth knowing.

Why do birds need extra food in the spring?

Birds need support all year round. In the spring months, birds are getting ready for the breeding season so it's important to help support them both in the run up to and when the fledglings start to appear. Fledglings need a different source of food than adults; sunflower heart chips, kibbled peanuts and fledgling seed mixes are all essential.
